Car Crashes Into Ellicott Creek After Brakes Fail On Way To Repair Shop

CITY OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WGRZ) -- A woman from the Tonawandas is shaken but unhurt following an accident that resulted in her car winding up in Ellicott Creek.

In an ironic twist, police told 2 On Your Side that the woman was in the parking lot of a mechanics shop on Young Street, hoping to get her brakes fixed, when the brakes failed sending her Chevy Equinox into the water.

Rescues found the woman sitting on top of the vehicle when they arrived. Emergency responders gave her a life jacket and then helped her to safety, just as her car went completely under the water.

It took a couple of hours, more than a dozen workers, and four separate tow trucks to get the SUV back onto solid ground. It is a total loss.
