Chicken Wing Theme Makes for Hot Contest at Buffalo Soup-Fest

Eleven of Western New York’s restaurants are hoping to spice up their entries into the Buffalo Soup-Fest with the area’s most famous food.

Entered into the category dubbed “Best Buffalo Style Soup” – also known as chicken wing soup – are Danny's, Buffalo Roadhouse, Dingen's Bar and Grill, Simply Gourmet, Washington Market, Savory's, Manny's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, Bellevue Hotel, Kensington Pizzeria & Restaurant, Mooney's and Shore's Waterfront Restaurant.

They will square off during the Soup-Fest, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, at the Millennium Hotel, 2040 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga. During the event, more than 30 vendors will compete in more than 12 categories, ranging from best potato soup to spiciest concoction, with attendees and celebrity judges casting their votes. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Hunter’s Hope.

Organizer Keith Wilson is excited about the turnout for the chicken wing soup category as well as the support received for the entire event.

“Buffalo is cold, windy, and damp all January, and we needed an event to warm the soul, show off our wonderful food and help local businesses get a boost during slower times,” he said. “Everyone has a unique family recipe or secret ingredient that makes their soup one of a kind. So far, everyone is thrilled that this event has started, and we intend on keeping it annually for years to come.”

A deal for a family four-pack of tickets for $10 has been extended to Jan. 25, and children’s characters and a bounce house will be featured for the little ones. Tickets regularly are $5 each.
