North Tonawanda Proposed Tax Increase
News

NORTH TONAWANDA, NY -  Residents of North Tonawanda may need to brace themselves for a significant tax increase.

Mayor Robert Ortt presented his first budget to Common Councilmembers Tuesday night, which includes a 7.8 percent property tax hike.

The mayor says the big increase is due to the former mayor's overly optimistic revenue projections, combined with the worst economy since The Depression.

Ortt warned the council last year about the overestimates when he was serving as the city's clerk-treasurer, but the council took no action at that time.
