Varsity Soccer Practice Kicks Off in the Ken-Ton School District
Schools

The Kenmore West Lady Blue Devils varsity soccer team and the Kenmore East Lady Bulldogs varsity soccer team practiced for the first time this season, as athletic regulations set Thursday August 19th, 2010 as the first time teams can gather for an official practice.  The Lady Blue Devils went through numerous drills at Crosby Field while the Lady Bulldogs did the same at Green Acres Field.

“It feels great to be back.  The girls have been working so hard all summer.  Players are excited and I’m excited.  We are all looking forward to the start of what we hope will be a successful season,” said Kenmore East Lady Bulldogs Varsity Soccer Head Coach Chris Robey.

“It is great to be back and we’re ready to go. It is nice to be at our home field at the start of the season.  We have a lot of returning players on the team. They know what is required and we’re ready to play.  The girls challenge themselves, they love playing at a high level,” said Kenmore West Blue Devils Varsity Soccer Head Coach Jen Gilham.

When the Kenmore West Lady Blue Devils hit the practice pitch to hone their soccer skills for the upcoming season, their area of the field happens to be right next to where the boys varsity soccer team practices.   In many respects being so close to the varsity boys team serves as a motivating factor for the girls team on the adjacent field.

“Because we are so close, on practically the same field, we do watch the boys at practice.  My players will watch one drill and say ‘we can do that better.’  Its fun to watch and it really motivates them to work harder,” added Gilham.

Kenmore West soccer teams participate in Class AA of the Niagara Frontier League while Kenmore East soccer teams participate in Class A of the N.F.L.  The two district rivals face one another twice in the upcoming season.  The first game between the Kenmore West Lady Blue Devils and Kenmore East Lady Bulldogs will take place on Friday September 24th, 2010 at 7:00 PM at Kenney Field (corner of Colvin and Brighton).  The second match-up will also take place at Kenney Field on Monday October 18th, 2010 at 5:00 PM.

“This is my fourth year coaching and we are looking forward to a successful season.  The girls want to win games.  I not only want them to win games, I want to lead them into becoming well rounded student athletes who succeed on the field and in the classroom,” added Robey.
