Carrousel Museum Introduces New Fall Family Day Program: “Wonderful Wood!”

Wouldn’t you know it—the museum has another great new program for families. In our first Fall Family Day children and their parents can explore all about the wonderful material that made Mr. Herschell’s carrousels possible—wood! A variety of crafts and hands-on activities will examine the historical, scientific, and artistic qualities of wood and how it was transformed from raw lumber to beautiful carrousel animals. Participants will be able to tour the museum’s displays of historic carrousel animals, talk with woodcarvers at work, and then try their hand at making their own carved masterpiece. Discover the science of tree ring counting, make your own “tree cookie” craft, learn about North Tonawanda is called “The Lumber City,” and much more at this unique event.

It’s fun for the whole family, so mark your calendar to join us on Saturday, November 2, 2013 between 12:00pm and 4:00pm. Cost for this program is just $6 per person; children under 2 are free. Coupons and passes are not accepted for this event, but Carousel Society members receive $1 off admission. Admission includes all crafts, activities, and one ride on the carrousel; additional rides are $.50 each. The outdoor Kiddieland Testing Park will be closed for the season, therefore those rides will be unavailable. For more information please contact the museum at 716-693-1885.

Please note: Activities are designed for school-age children, and some may have a minimum age requirement. No advance registration is needed.
