Lee Congratulates Williamsville Student Maria Manna on Acceptance to the U.S. Military Academy

WILLIAMSVILLE – Congressman Chris Lee (NY-26) congratulated Maria Manna of Williamsville on receiving an Offer of Appointment to the United States Military Academy as a member of the class of 2015. Manna also received a letter of recommendation from Congressman Lee to the United States Air Force Academy.

“I’d like to congratulate Maria on receiving an appointment to West Point, and know that she will make an outstanding officer,” said Congressman Lee. “Maria is a strong and dedicated young woman and she will serve her country well. I was proud to recommend Maria to attend both the U.S. Military Academy and the Air Force Academy and wish her much success.”

As Area Braces for Winter Storm, Seniors Will Need Help

Tonawanda, NY – In anticipation of what may be the area’s worst storm of the winter season, Ken-Ton Meals on Wheels fears it will have cancel meal delivery to seniors in need this Wednesday. 

Executive Director, Amanda Matyjas Crotty, is contemplating canceling meal delivery in advance of the snow to better help clients and their families prepare.  “It is our mission to deliver food to our clients when they expect it,” stated Crotty.  “However, we are concerned that canceling meal delivery early on Wednesday morning will not allow enough time for those who rely on our service and don’t have anything else in the house to eat.” 

The Ken-Ton Meals on Wheels program is urging all Western New Yorkers to check in on their elderly neighbors today and Tuesday to make sure they have food in their homes especially if the storm hampers the area for a few days.

Franklin Middle Supports our Troops

A group of students at Ben Franklin Middle school decided to collect some items to send to our troops in Afghanistan.  The group, called Chain Links, thought sending over some items from home would be a nice gesture.  They have been collecting packs of gum, lollipops, and individual packs of iced tea and lemonade.

This article will be updated early next week if you would like to contribute to this, there will be instructions.  So stock up and help our kids support our troops!

GETZVILLE, NY – It’s time to get competitive to fight cancer.

On January 22-23, the Jacquie Hirsch for A.L.L. Foundation is hosting its 3rd Annual ‘Jacquie Hirsch Memorial Girls Buffalo Challenge Meet.’ 

This competitive gymnastics meet will be taking place at Greater Buffalo Gymnastics & Fitness Center located at 1641 North French Rd. in Getzville.  Competition will start at 1:00 pm on Saturday and 7:00 am on Sunday. 
Admission is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. 

All proceeds from the meet benefit The Jacquie Hirsch Leukemia Research Fund which was established
 to generate awareness, research, sponsor events, and offer patient support for those afflicted with leukemia and blood cancers after Jacquie Hirsch for whom the foundation is named, lost her battle with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia at just 23 years old.

The Kenmore Village Improvement Society (KVIS) is planning a Pizza & Beer Bash that will be held this month on Saturday, January 29th starting at 7PM. It's $20/person or $35/couple. All the funds raised will be used to defend the Village from dissolution. 

Make sure to set time aside to attend the event and invite others to join you. There will be lots of pizza, beer & soda, and more, good conversation, very cool entertainment, and a neat auction.
