Maddie’s® Pet Rescue Project to Host Western NY’s Largest Pet-Themed Event

The most exciting event for area pet owners is taking place on November 15th & 16th at the Fairgrounds Event Center in Hamburg: the Maddie’s® Pet Rescue Project Pet Expo & Super Adoption Event presented by the PETCO Foundation.  The Pet Expo kicks off the holiday shopping season with over 100 vendors exhibiting pet-related products and services, from specialty collars to artisan pet treats to pet-themed artwork.

It’s a wonderful time of year to adopt a new member of the family and the Super Adoption Event provides the occasion to find the perfect match. With 30 rescue groups and shelters participating on Friday and Saturday, there will be over 200 dogs and cats of all ages and breeds. Adoption fees will vary by organization.

Non-stop entertainment will begin with a dog fashion show on Friday evening. On Saturday, flyball demonstrations, rally obedience, pet photo sessions, and a basket raffle will keep the fun going.  There will also be a microchip clinic run by Medaille College  and the Erie County Department of Health on Saturday from 12pm to 4pm and a Dogs Got Talent contest at 1pm.

Proceeds from the Pet Expo will help sustain the Maddie’s® Pet Rescue Project, a collaboration by Black Dog, Second Chance; the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter; HEART; Second Chance; the SPCA Serving Erie County; and Ten Lives Club.  The Maddie’s® Pet Rescue Project began in October of 2009 to guarantee a home for every healthy and treatable shelter pet in Erie County.  Since then, the euthanasia of dogs and cats with treatable medical conditions is down over 95%.  By 2014, the Project partners will be saving over 2,500 animals from euthanasia each year.

The Maddie’s® Pet Rescue Project Pet Expo & Super Adoption Event takes place on Friday, November 15 from 6pm to 9pm and Saturday, November 16 from 10am to 5pm.  Adult 2-day passes are only $8 and kids 12 and under are free. Well-behaved dogs are welcome for a $1 entry fee.
