Auction for Farm Animals Raises Over $700!

On September 27th Merge Restaurant helped to host the first annual "Auction for Farm Animals" to benefit Farm Sanctuary. Many people came out to show their support, and over $700 was raised. Thats enough to sponsor a cow for a year at the farm, and provide him, or her, with food, shelter, and any veterinary care that may be needed. An accomplishment, that for my first ever fundraising event, I am very proud of!

*Walk for Farm Animals is being held October 2nd, registration begins at noon, the walk at 1pm. There is a 3 mile walk, and one about 2 miles as well. For more information please visit the walk site, email Veganleggs80@yahoo.com, or call Danielle Legg at 716-803-0974. *

Miles for Megan Benefits New Mother with Leukemia

When Megan Smith began going into labor, her mind was on little else than delivering her child. But a routine blood test revealed an abnormality that altered things. “When it was about time for the epidural, the doctors did a CBC and found some abnormalities in the white blood count,” said her husband Ryan. “Instead of a normal 5-10k, it was around 40k.”

Megan was able to hold her baby, named Rylee Hannah, for a few minutes before they rushed her to Roswell Park Cancer Instititute in an ambulance. She was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and has been undergoing treatment ever since. In a matter of 2 months, she has undergone 2 rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.

3rd Annual Conquer Chiari Walk Across America

This past weekend was the first ever Conquer Chiari Walk in WNY. Amherst resident Agnes Starr joined forces with the Conquer Chiari Organization to help raise Awareness and funding for Chiari & Syringomyelia Awareness. This was the 3rd Annual Conquer Chiari Walk Across America but the first of its kind in our area. It took place Saturday Sept. 18th at Ellicott Creek Park in Tonawanda and raised over $20,000 towards research!

Chiari affects over 300,000 people in the US. Chiari is a serious neurological disorder in which the brain herniates out of the skull and puts pressure on the nerves and spinal cord causing debilitating pain and life-threatening symptoms.

The walk is a series of walks in different cities taking place on the same day to bring awareness and raise money for research.
