Explore Buffalo, the popular nonprofit organization providing tours and other opportunities where guests can discover Buffalo’s great architecture, history and neighborhoods, has announced its January tours and events.

Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State Adds Exercise Class

An exercise class offered by Buffalo State College senior Molly Lawler will take place from 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays beginning Jan. 14 at the Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State. Classes will be held in the Buckham Hall atrium at the Rees Street entrance, and participants are asked to bring a bottle of water and yoga mat. Classes will be free of charge; goodwill offerings would be appreciated. A Tabata workout will be featured on Jan. 14.

Lawler, a Health and Wellness major, received her ISCA Personal Training Certification as well as First Aid/CPR from the National Safety Council. AHA certified, she hopes to earn a Strength and Conditioning Certificate and continue her education in the personal training field.

Upcoming Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village Events Will Appeal to Audiences of All Ages

Three upcoming events in February and March will showcase the wide ranging activities that regularly take place at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, located at 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road in Amherst.

Heritage Village is pleased to announce that it will host its second annual First Ladies Tea from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. The event will pay homage to our region’s female political leaders and recognize local historical figures such as First Lady Abigail Fillmore and First Lady Frances Cleveland. The First Ladies Tea will feature a traditional English tea menu, as well as a performance by Denise Reichard as First Lady Dolley Madison. Tickets are priced at $30 for members and $35 for nonmembers; tables of 10 can be reserved for $300. Reservations are required by Feb. 8. In the event of a snowstorm, this event will be held on Feb. 12.

Audubon Community Nature Center Planning 35th Annual Snowflake Sustainable Living Festival

Jamestown, NY – Audubon Community Nature Center is planning for its 35th Annual Snowflake Sustainable Living Festival to be the best yet.

Magic Moments horse-drawn Carriage Rides, Wild Spirit Education programs with owls and hawks, alpacas from Dun Roving Farms, Chautauqua County Humane Society, and Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue are some of the animal experiences being lined up.

The Festival’s emphasis on sustainability means visitors can learn about and experience ways to live a bit lighter on the planet. Opportunities are being planned for bird nest box and feeder building, butter making, soap making, wool spinning, knitting, leather working, wheat grinding, maple tapping and syrup making.

Also indoors will be children’s crafts, a basket raffle, door prizes, great shopping at the Blue Heron Gift Shop, and the opportunity to win a handmade 100% repurposed braided wool rug in the feature raffle.

Christ the King School in Snyder Plans Annual Open House Event

Christ the King School, where quality education and faith are long-standing traditions, will host an open house event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, during Catholic Schools Week. The school is conveniently located at Main Street and Lamarck Drive in Snyder.

Christ the King, offering Pre-K3, Pre-K4, kindergarten and grades one through eight, provides students with a challenging curriculum that meets and exceeds New York State learning standards. Guests who tour the STREAM-designated school will learn about Christ the King’s art, music, computer, physical education and foreign language classes; clubs and extracurricular activities; safe and disciplined environment; educational field trips; Academic Intervention Services and much more! 

Visitors will also have an opportunity to meet Principal Samuel Zalacca, as well as the school’s teachers and staff.

Elmwood Village Winter Market Resumes on January 7, Free Exercise Classes Begin January 14

The Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State, an indoor version of the popular Elmwood Village Farmers Market, returns to Buckham Hall on the campus of SUNY Buffalo State, 1300 Elmwood Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 7, following a two-week holiday hiatus. 

In addition to hosting nearly 20 quality vendors, entertainment is offered from approximately 10 to 11:30 a.m. Providing musical entertainment on Jan. 7 will be Fools Like Us. Hosting the market’s community table this Saturday will be Heritage Centers. One group or organization from Buffalo State also hosts a weekly informational table, and the market is equipped to accept EBT customers as well.
