Pharmacists at Catholic Health dispensing positive patient experience

During National Pharmacy Week, October 18 – 24, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the invaluable contributions that our pharmacists make in the care of patients in our hospitals, nursing homes and home care settings.

Here at Catholic Health, pharmacists do much more than fill prescriptions. They are a vital part of the healthcare team treating our patients. Pharmacists see patients throughout their hospital stay and even make follow up calls to home to ensure patients are using their medications safely and effectively.

Being actively involved in the care of our patients is a priority of our pharmacists. They make sure patients are getting the right medication at the right time and the right dose every time. This includes discussing side effects, reviewing current medications, making sure the medication is achieving the desired effect or managing pain, and so much more.

Our pharmacists are focused on medication safety, trying to improve outcomes, making sure patients' existing drug regimens are followed, striving to shorten hospital stays when possible, and helping to prevent readmissions related to improper medication usage.

This week, take the time to recognize the significant, often unrecognized, work of our pharmacists, who truly are making a difference at Catholic Health and shaping the future of pharmacy across Western New York.
