Shannon's Story Shared with NT Students
News

NORTH TONAWANDA, NY - Shannon Smith received a big, warm welcome from the young students at Drake Elementary School. They saw Shannon's story on Daybreak - and were anxious to meet her in person. Shannon had lessons to teach that extended far beyond the classroom.

The students held a Hat day and each paid a quarter to take part. They raised over 200 dollars and gave that money to Shannon. The school's principal said they were very inspired by all she's been through and that she has a little boy.

The kids had a simple message to share: that there are a lot of people who care and want to help. The students had a few gifts for Shannon - and they didn't forget her young son, Oliver. They also made cards to encourage her - and remind her of all the support she has.

Shannon also shared the unbelievable response she's had from everyone in the community who has seen her story. "It's been overwhelming. People stop me in restaurants, emails, calling Channel 2 - it's been overwhelming. So I definitely appreciate it."

One thing is certain - there are a lot of people in Western New York who have been inspired by Shannon's story - and are doing their part to help.
