Grand Opening to Celebrate Daemen’s New Alumni House

AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen College’s Alumni House, which serves as the new central location for the college’s institutional advancement operations, will officially be unveiled at a grand opening celebration scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. March 21.

The Daemen community and the public are invited to attend the grand opening at Alumni House, located adjacent to Lot L, across the street from the Business Building. The event will begin with a welcome given by Daemen President Gary A. Olson, followed by a reception with refreshments and light hors d'oeuvres, and tours of the facility.

“We are pleased to continue to expand our campus in meaningful ways that are beneficial to our college community,” said Olson. “The opening of Alumni House has allowed us for the first time to headquarter our entire institutional advancement team in one facility, which, in turn, created space for all of enrollment management to be housed in Rosary Hall.”

Benefit to Help 5-year-old ‘Wolfman’ Take Bite Out of Leukemia

Edward Carias was nicknamed "Wolfman" by his Uncle Joe from the first time he saw him because Edward had tufts of hair on his ears, and that name stuck. Now at the age of 5, "Wolfman" is fighting for his life.

On Dec. 8, 2016, Edward was diagnosed wth B-cell Acute Lymphoblatic Leukemia, a cancer of the white blood cells. After spending 23 days at Women and Children's Hospital in Buffalo, Edward now faces two to three years of traveling from his home in Eden to Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo to undergo chemotherapy.

To assist Edward and his family in taking a bite out of leukemia and the resulting medical expenses, family and friends will hold a benefit from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the River Road Fire Hall, 39 Kaufman Ave., Town of Tonawanda.

Daemen’s Paralegal Program Earns ABA Approval

Daemen’s Paralegal Program Earns ABA Approval

AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen College’s Paralegal Studies Program has been granted approval by the American Bar Association, making it one of only two ABA-approved college programs in the Buffalo Niagara region.

Following an extensive evaluation process, the seven-year approval for Daemen’s program was awarded by the ABA Standing Committee on Paralegals. The college’s paralegal studies program was determined to have met rigorous requirements in curriculum, faculty selection and instruction, quality of student work, and support by administration and the legal community.

“Designation as an ABA-approved program is a key milestone that speaks to the exceptional quality of our paralegal studies program,” said Dr. Michael Brogan, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. “We are proud of this achievement and the program’s commitment to academic excellence in educating future paralegal professionals.”

News Media Reports 64 Home Fire Fatalities Recently, 2 in Falls

NATIONAL: According to  United States Fire Administration, there have been 64 home fire fatalities reported between Feb 5 and 11. After a review of the statistics there have been two local fire fatalities in Niagara Falls, according to the Administration this year so far.

Newfane, NY - On February 8, 2017 at approximately 20:34 hours the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a 911 call from a resident at 2571 West Creek Rd., reporting a fire in the residence. When fire personnel from Olcott and Miller Hose Fire Companies arrived on scene they discovered a working structure fire. All occupants were able to get out of the residence safely. There is an undetermined amount of damage at this time. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. The investigation is continuing by the Niagara County Origin and Cause Unit.

Breaking: US Coast Guard Responds to Florida Oil Spill

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coast Guard is responding Wednesday to a tugboat leaking oil on the Halifax River in Ormond-By-The-Sea.

Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center watch standers received a call at 3:45 p.m. from the National Response Corporation, stating a resident in the area informed them the tugboat Tutahaca was leaking oil.
