Student Debates Safe Act

Kyle Schoener, a Grand Island High School senior enrolled in Erie 1 BOCES Legal Academy, participated in a debate about the New York Safe Act. Eight students, participating from five different school districts, were broken into teams to defend their case and rebut information presented by an opposing team. The debate positions were assigned and the lively event took place at Medaille College.

The Erie 1 BOCES New Visions program links highly qualified high school seniors with mentoring legal and medical professionals. These competitive, off-site programs integrate English and social studies credits needed for graduation but take place at locations such as Medaille College, Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital and the Buffalo VA Medical Center. Applications are now being accepted for the 2014-15 school year of New Visions. Students interested should visit www.e1b.org/cte and speak with their high school counselor.
