Local Fitness Expert Creates New Training Program for U.S. Marines

East Aurora resident Steven Helmicki, president of Primordial Strength Inc., was contacted by trainers from the U.S. Marine Corp. base in Camp Lejune over the summer to consult on new training methods. After contributing with Noreen Kuhn on the Semper Fit presentation titled “Uncommon Training with Common Movements,” next came a week-long mentoring program that ran daily from 6 a.m. until the dead of the night.

Primordial Strength to Offer Concussion Reduction Seminar to Area Athletes

Sports-related concussions have been all over the news lately, thanks in large part to some serious injuries that have occurred in recent NFL and NHL games.

From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, December 11, Primordial Strength Inc. — a leader in neck and trapezius training and the anti-concussion movement — will conduct a Concussion Reduction Seminar through Neck and Trap Training at the Lancaster Elks Lodge, 33 Legion Parkway. The cost is $40, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the annual Trench Trophy award event. The trophy is presented annually to Western New York’s high school “Lineman of the Year.”

Local Powerlifter is Training Other Athletes to Win

In his early teens, Steve Helmicki considered himself a bit of an undersized football player, which led him to begin training in his parents’ attic with a DP vinyl and sand weight set and a Bill Grant fitness manual. While countless other young athletes might have a similar story to tell, very few — if any — have ever taken it quite as far as Helmicki.

Kids age 10-12 learn basic fitness principles in Town of Tonawanda's "Crash Course"

The Town of Tonawanda Youth, Parks and Recreation Department announced the fall schedule for this year’s Crash Course, a class that familiarizes kids with fitness equipment and gym etiquette.

Beginning Sunday, September 5 and running through October 24, classes will be held each Sunday in the fitness room at the Town of Tonawanda Aquatic and Fitness Center (AFC), 1 Pool Plaza in Tonawanda from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Classes are $20.00 for AFC members and $32.00 for non-members.  Participants can register online using class code 412072-01 or in person at the AFC.

“We feel that it’s important to offer an introduction to the state of the art fitness equipment we have at the Aquatic and Fitness Center,” added Councilman Dan Crangle, Chairman of the Youth, Parks and Recreation Committee. “And gym etiquette benefits everyone.”
